Your Questions, Answered
The things readers ask us most, with straight answers.
Which AI companion app should I try first?
If you just want to see what it's like, try something that doesn't ask for a card. Our featured partner, Desire AI, needs no sign-up during its beta. SpicyChat AI has unlimited free chat, and Erogen AI gives about 600 free messages a day. If you already know you want a long-term companion, a month of Nomi AI is the best independent test.
What is the Featured partner?
Desire AI (desireai.app) is our featured partner. It has its own card above the rankings, it isn't rated or ranked, and it shares an owner with BotRank (see our disclosure page). The 20 ranked apps are rated on the evidence and top out at 4.2.
Do AI girlfriend apps really cost $3.99 a month?
That number is usually a yearly plan divided by twelve and paid upfront. Candy AI's $3.99 a month, for example, is $47.88 billed at once. On top of that, pictures, calls and videos usually use tokens or coins. Many people end up paying several times the headline price.
What are tokens, coins and credits?
They're an in-app currency that most companion apps use for pictures, voice and video, and sometimes for messages too. Each app names them differently: tokens (Candy AI, Infatuated), DreamCoins (OurDream), Neurons (Joi), Stars (GoLove) and Hearts (Swipey). Check what one picture or one minute of voice costs before you buy a pack.
Can I talk to an AI companion out loud?
Yes, in many apps. Nomi AI, OurDream AI, Erogen AI and Candy AI offer voice calls, though some charge per minute in their currency. Kupid AI includes weekly voice-message minutes. SpicyChat keeps text-to-speech for its top plan. Our voice chat guide compares them.
Will my AI companion remember me?
It depends on the app and the plan. Nomi AI is the strongest at long-term recall. Many others remember only the last 20 to 100 messages unless you pay for memory features such as Erogen's memory slots or Nectar's starred memories.
How do I cancel without getting charged again?
Cancel from the app's account or subscription settings at least a day before renewal, and screenshot the confirmation. Most apps here are billed through card processors, not app stores, so they won't show up in your phone's subscriptions list. Check the renewal price too, because some apps renew higher than the first term.
Is BotRank itself explicit?
No. We describe adult apps in plain, non-explicit language. The site is still meant only for adults aged 18 and over.
